Christoph Lange is a German pulmonologist and infectious diseases specialist. He is the Medical Director of the Research Center Borstel and Professor of Respiratory Medicine & International Health at the University of Lübeck, Germany. He is Guest Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX (USA). Professor Lange leads the Clinical Tuberculosis Unit of the German Center for Infection Research and is the clinical lead of UNITE4TB consortium that evaluates novel anti-tuberculosis drugs and regimens in a novel clinical trial platform across 4 continents. He is currently the Secretary General of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases. 

Professor Chorostowska-Wynimko, is the current President of the European Respiratory Society, Professor of Medicine, Head of the Department of Genetics and Clinical Immunology at National Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (NITLD) in Warsaw, Poland, and a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at NITLD. Professor Chorostowska-Wynimko received training as a post-doctoral researcher at Department of Physiology and Molecular Biology, Medical College of Ohio (2001–2002), and at the Medical University of Toledo (2009). She has received Board certification in Laboratory Immunodiagnostics (2011), Respiratory Medicine (2001), and Internal Medicine (1997). Professor Chorostowska-Wynimko is widely published with over 285 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is a principal investigator and coordinator on many clinical studies and scientific programs. Professor Chorostowska-Wynimko’s clinical/scientific interest is mostly devoted to lung cancer as well as COPD and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. She is a scientific co-coordinator of the EU4Health project „Strenghtening the screening of Lung Cancer in Europe” (SOLACE), the lead for lung cancer domain in the EU JANE2 Shaping the EU Networks of Expertise on cancer (101183265 JANE-2 EU4H-2023-JA-3-IBA) consortium, site lead for the SPARC -Support of Personalized medicine Approaches in Cancer (101232874) and CraNE2- Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres (101183407), as well as participates as an expert in the EU DIGItal Infrastructure for ONcology in Europe (101115081 DigiONE I3 I3-2021-INV1), and EUCanScreen - Implementation of cancer screening programmes (101162959). She is part of the Medical Steering Committee of the European Reference Network-LUNG, member of the Scientific Committee of the European AATD Research Collaboration (EARCO), coordinator of the National Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Registry, as well as the head of the Polish Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Diagnostic Centre.

Marc Miravitlles, MD, FERS, is a senior researcher and a consultant in the Pneumology Department at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute in Barcelona, Spain. He has served as chair of the Respiratory Infections Group of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and guidelines director of the ERS. He has also acted as a consultant for the development of international guidelines of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including the American Thoracic Society (ATS)/ERS guidelines on exacerbations of COPD and the ERS statement on the management of respiratory disease in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. He is currently a consultant to the Spanish Ministry of Health for the development of the National Strategy Against COPD and the president-elect of the ERS (2025-2026). In addition, he has served as the coordinator of the Spanish National Guidelines for COPD since 2011. Dr Miravitlles is the author or coauthor of more than 650 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of COPD and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

Prof. Marlies Wijsenbeek-Lourens is a pulmonologist and professor of Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, where she leads the Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases and Sarcoidosis. Her clinical and research work focuses on improving the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of ILD, with particular interest in patient-centred care and digital health innovations such as home monitoring. She is actively involved in international collaborations and networks dedicated to advancing research and care for rare lung diseases.

Najib Rahman Directs the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit and works clinically as a pleural specialist. Having qualified in Oxford he underwent the medical SHO rotation at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, and re-joined Oxford as a Specialist Registrar in 2003. He undertook a DPhil and MSc in this period and was appointed Director of the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit and Consultant Lead for Pleural Disease in Oxford in 2011. He was appointed as Professor of Respiratory Medicine in 2018, and is currently running randomized and observational studies in pleural infection, pneumothorax and malignant pleural effusion. He is trained in Thoracoscopy, Thoracic Ultrasound and Clinical Trials methodology, and has published over 300 papers with citations of >6000 and an H-index of 62. He is co-chair of the BTS Pleural Guidelines 2023, Chair of the BTS Pleural Intervention Committee 2023, Chair of multiple ERS guidelines on pleural disease, Senior NIHR Investigator and National Speciality Lead for Respiratory Research for the UK Clinical Research Network.

Sam Bayat MD Ph.D. is professor of Physiology at the Université Grenoble Alpes, Director of Université Grenoble Alpes - INSERM UA07 - Synchrotron Radiation for Biomedicine (STROBE) Laboratory and head of the Lung Function Laboratory at the Grenoble University Hospital, in Grenoble, France. Sam Bayat obtained his MD degree at the Université Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France. He is a former visiting scientist at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility from 2001 to 2004, where his interest focused on developing the applications of synchrotron imaging in the study of lung structure, and regional ventilation and perfusion. His current research focuses on the pathophysiology of lung injury and obstructive lung diseases, mechanical ventilation and aerosol deposition, using imaging techniques. Dr Bayat has a number of ongoing collaborations with recognized European Research Centres.
